False Color Landsat Image

This is an image of Phoenix, Arizona created on a computer using data collected from the Landsat 5 satellite. Data about the amount of Infrared energy, Green light, and Blue light reflected from the Earth's surface was recorded by the satellite and sent back to earth. Then, computers are used to combine the data to make images like this one. The infrared energy, energy we cannot see, is displayed as red, energy we can see.

What can we learn about the earth from this image?

How does this image differ from the photograph of Phoenix from space?
